From the Wisdom of Mr. Rogers...

Learning and loving go hand in hand.  My grandfather was one of those people who loved to live and loved to teach.  Every time I was with him, he’d show me something about the world or something about myself that I hadn’t even thought of yet.  He’d help me find something wonderful in the smallest of things, and ever so carefully, he helped me understand the enormous worth of every human being.  My grandfather was not a professional teacher, but the way he treated me (the way he loved me) and the things he did with me, served me as well as any teacher I’ve ever known.

Look for the wonder in small things!

Celebrate the enormous worth of
every human being!

Learning and loving go hand in hand!

Thought for the day from Mr. Rogers....

As human beings, our job in life is to help people realize how rare and valuable each one of us really is, that each of us has something that no one else has-or ever will have- something inside that is unique to all time.  It’s our job to encourage each other to discover that uniqueness and provide ways of developing its expression.

What you do is important!

Thought for the day from the Wisdom of Mr. Rogers

When I was very young, most of my childhood heroes wore capes, flew through the air, or picked up buildings with one arm.  They were spectacular and got a lot of attention.  But as I grew, my heroes changed, so that now I can honestly say that anyone who does anything to help a child is a hero to me.

As you get ready for a new year remember....
You are a hero!

The Rules of the Classroom

As you are setting up your classroom
don't forget about the rules.

Each of the Designer Collections
has a chart especially for the rules.

Six years ago Trevor was starting kindergarten.
He was a little anxious about the big step he was about to take.
I asked him if he would like to go to school to see
what kindergarten was all about.

We visited Sandi Hill's classroom while she was
getting ready for Meet the Teacher.
(By chance he ended up in her class.
Since we have been friends for more than
20 years, maybe it was not all by chance.)

As he was looking around the room
he spied a chart.

"What is that?", he asked Mrs. Hill.
She replied, "Those are our rules."
Then she read the rules to him.
"I can do that!", he said.
His anxiousness was gone.

This is from the wisdom of Mr. Rogers...
Children want to please the important people in their lives.
The problem comes when they don't know how.

That's why we need rules posted in the classroom.

A really fun way to teach the rules of the classroom
is with Rules Rap by Dr. Jean.

Close this window

Rules Rap
Follow directions.
Hands and feet to yourself.
Small voices inside,
tall voices on the playground.
Take care of your things.
Keep classroom neat and clean.
Work together, get along and respect each other.

If everyone would do that
it would be a perfect year!

Making Memories Month by Month

I have been checking the STATS on my blog lately
to see who is out there, where you are from,
 and what you are reading.

I was so surprised that the #1 blog visited
last week was Celebrate February.

Almost 500 people wanted to
Celebrate February in August
What is up!
It is 105 degrees in Texas!

I went back to the blog
from January 11, 2011 to check it out.

Then. I realized why there was so much interest.
The blog features one of my favorite books.

Making Memories is one of those books
that you need to start the year.
It is available as an e-book so you can download it immediately and be ready to go.

Making Memories Month by Month
This book includes projects for each month of the year.
When the children complete the projects for the month the teacher
compiles the projects to make a scrapbook for each child.

A scrapbook full of art projects that a child made during the school year
is a perfect end of the year gift for the parents.
Add a child’s writing samples, math activities, photographs, and projects,
and that same memory book becomes a colorful portfolio of the child’s work.

This book was made by Gilbert.
The pages are 12" x 18" construction paper.
Each month has two pages of projects.

Here are some sample pages from Gilbert's book.

September
Notice that each month has a project that is made using the child's hands or feet.
The small apple is his fist.

October
Each month has a poem for the children to learn.

November
Each month has an art project to be made.

December

January

February

March

April
Each month has a writing (dictating) project.

May

June

End of the Year

At the end of the year Gilbert recorded
how he had grown during kindergarten.

This project is guaranteed to make a mama cry!!!

The project works best if you start it at the
beginning of the school year.
 So, order your e-book now!
Be ready to go when school starts.
